Our Story
Founded in 2010, South 89 Seed has always taken a customer-first approach, with owners Tony and Amy Brateng tailoring services to each grower’s individual operations, maturity needs, and crop rotations.
In the early years, South 89 Seed offered prompt delivery of high-quality Pioneer® seed and seed treatment, with Amy specializing in crop planning and field mapping. In 2018, Carl Gaukerud joined South 89 Seed and added spring wheat seed varieties and crop protection to our catalog of products. As the business continued to grow, so did the team. Blaine Kriel joined South 89 Seed in 2020.
In addition to the seed business, Tony and Amy operate a small grains and grass seed production farm. Over the years, they’ve gained important insights into product performance and placement through on-the-farm testing.
